Powerful Karate – Side Kick is one of the most uniquely powerful karate kicks. Start by standing with feet shoulder width apart. Next Lift the knee up and forward and returning to the standing position is the first lesson. Seems easy and it is. Equally important, is to train yourself to maintain balance. See Karate kicking
Earlier in a comment I left a comment related to movement.

When balance is a problem, holding onto a chair or rail is good. Holding something to maintain balance is advisable compared to always being off balance. Consequentially, Understanding the fundamental concept moving from balance to off balance is needful to performing kick/s. Repetition of correctly executed is difficult without balance. Furthermore, injury is more likely in an unbalanced state. Although the most powerful kicks are delivered moving from a balanced to unbalanced state, balance while training is advised.
